CRYOGENIC SUPPORTS FOR AN LNG EXPORT TERMINAL IN USA

CPA is supplying 500 cryogenic pipe supports (or ‘cold shoes’) to a natural gas liquefaction and liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminal being developed in the USA. The project will have a production capacity of 20 million metric tons per annum (Mtpa).

The cold shoes will support pipe sizes ranging from 4” to 36”. The cold shoes incorporate between 1 and 3 layers of high density polyurethane foam (HD PUF) which acts as an effective cryogenic insulating and load bearing medium. The HD PUF layers are stepped in order to prevent cold transfer and also to match up to the pipe line insulation.

The cold shoes are painted in-house as per the client’s specification. The 5th photo shows the steel cradles hanging in our paint spray booth.

In the final photo, the cold shoe is assembled around a pipe spool in order to check fit up to the pipe as part of the inspection and quality assurance process.

CRYOGENICS SUPPORTS SUPPLIED TO A SPECIALTY CHEMICALS PRODUCTION PLANTS IN MALAYSIA

CPA is supplying over 1,200 cryogenic pipe supports (or ‘cold shoes’) to a specialty chemicals production plant in Malaysia (which will produce ethoxylates and polyether polyols).
Here the supports are laid out for inspection prior to packing and shipping.

CPA’s pipe support offering includes dynamic restraints (hydraulic snubbers and rigid struts) as well as connecting stiff clamps.
These photos show feature CPA’s hydraulic snubber (as well as our handsome model/sales manager Michael in Taiwan). Our largest snubbers possess a load carrying capacity of up to 1000 Kn.
Under the normal operating conditions of a piping system, hydraulic snubbers accommodate the required displacement of the piping. However, during a dynamic event (such as an earthquake, rapid valve closure, two phase flow or relief valve discharge) the snubbers lock the piping system in place thus protecting it from excessive deflections /stresses.
The CPA hydraulic snubber incorporates a ‘through rod’ design. This provides the following benefits over competitor products:
✅ No need for an external reservoir – the hydraulic fluid volume does not change, as a result of the existence of the piston rod on either side of the piston.
✅ Strong design – the piston rod is supported at both ends to avoid ‘knuckling’ and subsequent wear on the bearings.
✅ Small diameter – efficient design and no external reservoir results in a compact product.
✅ Enables the snubber to be installed in any orientation.

✅ Results in robust product with strong and reliable performance.

BASE MOUNTED CONSTANT EFFORT SUPPORTS FOR A PROCESS FURNACE

Over 300 base-mounted Constant Effort Spring Supports are laid out for inspection prior to packing and shipping.

These constant supports are being supplied to another large process furnace.

All constant supports are delivered to site locked at the specified loading and in the required travel position to accommodate the specified movements. Once the weight of the pipework matches the operating loading, the supports are unlocked by removing the universal locking rods (which are then stowed on the side of the spring can during operation). The locking rods enable the supports to be re-locked in any travel position.

CRYOGENIC PIPE SUPPORTS ANCHORS FOR INIDIAN LNG REGAS PROJECT

CPA is an industry leader in the supply of pipe support solutions worldwide.
In this case study, CPA supplied over 100 cryogenic pipe support anchors (or ‘cold shoes’) for an LNG Import, Storage and Regasification Project in India which were specially designed due to very high loads acting on the piping.
The cold shoes incorporate high density polyurethane foam and high density resin-impregnated wooden blocks as load bearing, cryogenic insulating mediums.
To prevent axial movement of the pipe, thrust rings are welded to each end of the shoe. Additional thrust flanges are welded to the pipe at site which slot into the inserts machined into PUF/Wood as seen in the 2nd photo.
In the 3rd photo, the cold shoe is assembled around a pipe spool as part to check fit up to the pipe as part of the inspection and quality assurance process.

Liquefied natural gas (LNG) is produced from a cryogenic process, in which natural gas is filtered and cooled to -162ºC, reducing its volume by up to 600 times. With this process, it is possible to transform the gas into liquid, making it easier to store and transport.
